I have favourite clients.
Are you one of them?
Could you be?
When I started freelancing as a copywriter, I was told by my professor to “niche down...find your specialty...be selective!” But despite this advice, I found it difficult in the beginning to narrow my client parameters as I simply wanted to work and not turn anyone away. With time I realized that finding a niche was not only good business sense, but also aligned with my own values and passions.
My favourite clients – the businesses that I not only absolutely love writing for, but whom I excel at writing for – are small, service-based businesses in the Greater Toronto Area.
Small service-based businesses, such as psycho-therapists, wellness clinics, dentists, or speech pathologists, all rely on forming trusting relationships with their own clients. These businesses must set client minds at ease, showcase what makes them special, and deliver value in their competitive markets. They are truly community-based, serving the needs of their neighbourhoods.
And this is where I can deliver my own value. Writing regular blogs and e-newsletters for these small businesses fosters relationships, showcases their value to their clients, establishes authority in their fields and enables trust and connection. Writing or revising a website gives me the privilege to differentiate a business and make clear connections with potential clients.
It is incredibly rewarding to see small businesses with so much heart and compassion for their clients, allow me to support them with all their copy, so their communities can easily see the value they bring.
As one of my previous clients shared:
“Rebecca took the time to truly understand not just what we do at Bloom, but who our families are and what they’re experiencing when they come to us. Her website copy beautifully captures the heart of our nature-based, play-driven approach while addressing every question and concern a parent might have.
...Rebecca helped us communicate our values: family-centred care, honouring each child’s individuality, building authentic relationships in a way that invites connection rather than confusion. The website copy now speaks directly to parents with empathy and clarity, helping them feel seen and supported even before they reach out. Rebecca didn’t just write about our services; she created a welcoming space on the page that reflects the safe, compassionate environment we strive to create in person.”
Capturing the heart of a business.
Communicating a business’s values.
Fostering a connection and setting a positive impression before people have the opportunity to meet in person.
These types of projects – these types of clients – are my favourite.
